wondering if I really tried everything I could (OPEN)

WHO: Kondou Isami, possibly you!
WHAT: A lost Shinsengumi commander in a Resistance Army camp

[The first confusing thing that Kondou had noticed was that, well- he had woken up at all. Not to mention that on top of it, he had no idea where he was. Whether those that resided in the camp were friend or foe was something that he needed to find out before going any further. The tent he’d woken up in didn’t seem to be guarded, so he cautiously made his way outside to try and see if he could figure out what was going on.

… Which just meant that there was now a very confused man standing in the middle of camp. At the first sight of someone who he could approach for questions, Kondou made his way over.]

Ahh, I’m sorry to bother you with something so trivial, but…

[Enter this charming ~~young~~ lady, who can't help but think that she really should help out someone, anyone in need. And as he seemed troubled...]

How could I help you, mister?

[ sup, other me. He turns when he hears her voice, a grateful expression on his face. ]

Ah, you see- I think I'm just a little bit lost. So if you had any information to give me, that would be appreciated.

[Sup? If it's information he's fishing for:]

You just recently arrived, haven't you? I can't blame you for feeling lost if that's the case.

[She gives him a smile.]

Even though we're still more or less on the same boat, I can at least give you the basic information. We've been brought here from different worlds and different points in time to fight Orochi and any demon spawn that decide to attack. We're in the main camp, so we're fine for the time being.

[Now, for the inevitable follow-up questions, because she's quite sure she just made him feel even MORE lost.]

[ More lost? How did she know? Kondou looks more confused than ever, but he can see that she's willing to answer his questions, which is a big plus. ]

I know of the Serpent King Orochi, but nevertheless I thought it simply a legend... Dare I ask how we were all brought here from different points in time?

[ That seemed to be the most important question to ask first. ]

[She'd know, because she herself had to ask after Toshi had tried to explain stuff to her.]

You and me both, mister. It wasn't until I was brought here and saw with my own two eyes what was going on that I had to believe it wasn't just a legend, but the truth.

I'm still a little unclear, but apparently it's through some sort of magic that pulls people from different points in time and bringing them to this world to fight against Orochi.

Or more clearly, Orochi wanted to bring people from all time periods and fight them all at once.

[Again, as Toshi had tried to explain to her. That, and talk of having to fight off demons.]

Does that help you some?

Magic... I'm afraid that is beyond my scope of understanding, but I do understand the need to fight. I can easily commit myself to the cause, if it comes to that, but...

[ There was still a lot that he needed to digest. It was a difficult pill to swallow. ]

Or something that is close enough to magic. It deals with time, and all sorts of people are here.

[Here, she grows a little starry-eyed, don't mind her. It's just that all the famous people she's read about somehow got pulled into this place as well. Even if they're not women like she thought they'd be, but it's good enough!

Ahem, moving on:]

I don't understand it very well either, but if we're both here, we've both been caught up in it and there's no helping it.

Yes, I too had noticed that there were a lot of famous generals from history around here... I'm rather excited myself!

[ please let there be a Guan Yu, please let there be a Guan Yu. he might be getting rather excited himself... ]

You are right, of course. We might as well make the best of it, even if we cannot necessarily change anything. [ The comment catches him off guard, but he tries to wave it off. ]

I simply never thought that I'd be in such a position, that's all.

Oh! From what Toshi has told me, it's not just generals! He said that master strategists like Takenaka Hanbei, Guo Jia, Jia Xu are here, as well as leaders like Cao Cao, Oda Nobunaga... and Guan Yu~♥

[Again, pardon her, she just has a special place for Guan Yu in her heart of hearts, and she'd never thought she could actually get to meet this distinguished person until now. Except she wasn't holding her breath for meeting up with a female Guan Yu, but again, it's still something.]

No one ever does, mister. Life happens, and we simply have to face whatever fate has dealt us head-on and fight the good fight.

[ Waaait, wait wait wait. The way that she says that name gives Kondou pause, and surprisingly enough, everything else goes out the window in the face of finding out more information. At least, for the time being. ]

"Toshi"...? You know him too? [ The nickname is a giveaway on its own. But no one else calls him that, either. ]

Mm? Yeah, I know To--

[The sudden realization of what he means with that hits her. She turns serious as she asks him:]

What is your name, mister?

[And if he is who she thinks he is, then she will be both glad, and a little sad at the same time.]

... Kondou Isami. And yourself?

[ Starting to get the same feeling, here... ]

[So this is the guy version of her~ She'd heard Toshi and Souji talk about him and she knew he had been almost exactly like herself in many ways. But looks, that certainly seemed to be thrown by the wayside, what with her hair color and his being polar opposites.

Still, he was her, only in male form. It was strange to think about it, but she had to give respect when it was due. Especially since they were more or less the same.]

Then I can only assume you're the other me that Toshi had talked about~?

Odd as it might be to think, my name is also Kondou Isami. Pleasure to make your acquaintance~♥

[And with that, she gave him a slight bow.]

Ah-- so you are...!

[ He'd heard the rumours, but it was so much better to be able to actually meet her in person. The realisation seems to make him a lot happier than he was a few moments ago, and he quickly returns the bow out of respect. ]

It is a pleasure to meet you, as well! I did not think that such a thing was possible, but I am glad to be able to experience it firsthand!

I didn't think it was possible either, but seeing that everyone that I knew and read up on were actually men in this place... I had no choice but to accept it as fact.

[Yes, guy-me, imagine everyone you know as girls~ Even Guan Yu as a girl, EVERYONE as a girl. Another thought comes in, and she just thinks out loud:]

Now I wonder what they're going to do with both of us, seeing as you're the one that they were waiting for, and I only happened to come here first?

[It could spell trouble.]

What do you mean, what they're going to do with both of us? Surely both of us will be decent assets to the cause, right?

[ ... right? ]

I don't doubt that at all! Being who we are, we have a certain way with a sword that can't be denied.

[Only...]

But I was talking about Toshi and Souji.

Toshi and Souji...

[ he frowns. the thought never would have occurred to him, honestly. ]

How have they acted towards you?

Oh no, they've been perfect gentlemen! I have nothing but praise for the two of them.

[Souji was just Souji, and he was a kind, thoughtful young man~ Toshi was also kind enough to tell her a fair amount of what to expect in a fight against the demons. It was invaluable information, and she trusted him as much as she would trust her own Toshi, and that's saying something big.]

I was just wondering about how they will deal with having both of us around. As I said, you were the one they were waiting for, and I was just stepping in for you for a short time.

[That they'd show favoritism to the man before her was something she would expect. Only, it'd actually hurt her feelings a bit to be left out and be treated like a fifth wheel.]

Neither of them are like that, though-- I do not see why they would leave you out. You're still... well, me, aren't you? Even if we look different.

Yes, you are me, I am you, but they're more used to the you who is a man, than the me who is a woman.

[She's gotten used to Toshi and Souji being men, but that's because she's learned to deal with changing circumstances. This isn't the first time she's thrown into some far-off world after all.]

I will also concede, even if we're supposed to be the same person, we look drastically different, not even taking into account the entire gender thing.

[She takes a lock of her blond hair between her fingers, but she's far too amused by this. No, really, she is.]

This, for example~

[At least they seemed to like dressing up in the same sorts of colors, so there's that!]

They might be more used to me at the moment, but I'm sure that they can get used to it. The Shinsengumi are good at adapting to change.

[ Some more than others, but in a place like this, perhaps it might be easier to deal with. Or perhaps it could make things even worse, it's difficult to tell. ]

And though we look rather... different, we are similar on other ways, aren't we?

[ That colour really suits her. ]

Toshi was fine with the fact after he learned of who I was. Souji as well, but only after asking me when he got into the Shieikan.

[She couldn't blame him for thinking unwell of her for a moment or two, but she cleared that up right away, and he became quite warm toward her. It was nice~ Toshi was even better with it. Kind from the get-go. Yes, she really should give them more credit. Her other self is right.]

I think I'll only have to see what time will tell as far as we're concerned, but I guess now that you put it that way, I'm more hopeful of how things will go.

[She gives him a smile with that last question he asked.]

Oh, I think we're similar enough in many ways. Color scheme is very similar, I'm quite sure we did many things in a similar way in our lives, and we're both proud leaders of the Shinsengumi, are we not? There's enough right there to show you that we are similar.

Just how exactly is what you are curious about, aren't you~?

We're both proud leaders of the Shinsengumi... that's true. There is nothing in my life that I am quite so proud of. And yet-- I am curious. We are not the same gender, so are there other things which are different too?

[ colour him curious. ]

[Oh, she's been very curious about him for a while now, so she knows exactly what he's meaning. Only, she didn't want to ask either Souji or Toshi too much because that somehow seemed like it would be crossing a certain line.]

There's only one thing that I know is a definite one. Souji was talking about how you took a wound to your shoulder...

[She points to her own shoulder - it's very fair and scar-free.]

So I knew that there must be some differences in how things happened between us. As you say, if I am a woman, there are bound to be other small changes.

[Nevermind the fact that she's actually very comfortable in western clothing.]

I wouldn't mind your asking any direct questions at all, so don't hesitate.
