WHO: Hijikata Toshizou. Possibly also you.
WHAT: Looking for something very important.
WHERE: All around the main camp.
WARNING(S): Shitty haiku, if he ever finds it.
[Today in your main camp, there is a samurai.
On a mission.
No matter where you've chosen to hang out today, you've probably seen him at some point. Rummaging around in whatever boxes or stacks of supplies are out, checking the ground, talking to people just out of your earshot...it seems like he's looking for something.
And judging by the way he occasionally mutters something grumpy and possibly profane under his breath, he doesn't seem to be finding it.
What do?]

Okita Souji.
And who are you? Because you aren't Hijikata Toshizou.
no subject
Bullshit.
no subject
He looks nothing like you.

[Though he is considering this, somewhere in the back of his mind.
There aren't many people stupid enough to try and impersonate any of the Shinsengumi, let alone the people at the top. Let alone stupid enough to try and do it straight to the face of another of the leaders.
And given that they're already in some crazy mishmash of reality where great names from the Sengoku era and the Three Kingdoms of China are walking around - but even then, they're different people, aren't they? Two versions of the same seems like a stretch even by these standards.
He can afford to think this, since he hasn't met the female Oda Nobunaga yet. He's considering the possibilities.
But he's sure as hell not about to back down from someone telling him he doesn't have the right to his own name, either.]

He's still watching the other man, although the fact he actually knows that Toshi-san writes haiku is definitely something very few people would be aware of.]
...How old was I when I first came to Kondou-san's dojo.
no subject
But even if not many people would be able to answer that question, Hijikata doesn't even have to stop to think about it.]
Nine.

...I'd ask you other questions, but some things are better not being brought up in public.
I apologize for my rudeness, Hijikata-san. [ ...He's still not sure he believes the man but for now...]
no subject
Don't worry about it. It's not the first thing I've had trouble believing when I saw it around here.
[Or even not around here, but that's a can of worms he's not about to open with anyone not already in the know.
He's still got a level of skepticism about all this himself, but. There are better ways to figure this out than the first one that came to mind - that being "how about you demonstrate your sandanzuki." (Not really the kind of thing you ask a man to do when you're the only convenient target at hand, after all.)
He'll just have to keep an eye on this one, next time a fight comes up.]

[...Other versions of the Shinsengumi is definitely something that he'd never considered. This bears looking into, especially if it means there are other versions of him wandering around. ]
You mentioned a different version of me?
no subject
So when his apparent 'other self' asked for a different version of him, Souji pretended to not know anything and that he just conveniently popped out from some corner of the tent.]
Hijikata-san, it seems you are finally making some friends.
no subject
If you want to call it that.
no subject
...I assume this one comes from the same place you did? [ The question is directed at Hijikata, although he at least offered a slight bow to the newcomer.]
no subject
Yes. I have known him for the longest time, unfortunately.
no subject
...well, potentially awkward as it is, probably easiest to just get it over with.]
Okita Souji...Okita Souji.
[Introducing people to themselves is weird as hell, man.]
no subject
I will admit, I was not expecting to meet you quite so soon.
[ Especially since you look NOTHING like me. ]
no subject
[Souji could do the same, but the situation is still too hilarious to him to think over it too seriously. Granted, if this Souji was only somewhat the same as him, than he had to keep a watchful eye on him.]
no subject
Souji. You heard of this happening with anyone else?
[He hadn't, yet, but there were a lot of people around here. It wouldn't be hard to miss something. And while he wasn't really going to bother pondering the deeper implications of this place being distorted not just in terms of time, but also reality - that seemed like a quick enough ticket to making one's head explode...
...well, he had to wonder if there were more of them running around.]
