Oda Nobunaga (Rank I) ([personal profile] afoolsdesire) wrote in [community profile] fuckingsnakes2012-10-19 11:37 pm

+1 Fool

WHO: Rank I Nobunaga and you!
WHAT: Someone's dancing in the camp! To some, he may look like a familiar face... but what are those strange critters?
WHERE: The main camp.
WARNING(S): Probably none, but given this guy's lack of a sense of decency...

[You know how there are some young men with no facial hair about whom you can't help but think how great they would look if they grew a mustache?

Well, one such young fellow has just showed up in the camp, accompanied by what seems to be a really small blue quadruped dinosaur with no eyes - a Deino - and a bipedal, raptor-like creature, blue with a red breast - a Gabite. The man himself may as well be from prehistory, wearing torn, mismatched clothes that (don't) come together in a really bizarre outfit. But, more likely, he's doing it for the attention - he's really the type of person who doesn't mind having all eyes on him.

As evidenced by the activity he has wasted no time in undertaking - he has chosen a spot he liked near the stalls and, a purple fan in his hand, he has started dancing to a song he's humming, while his Pokémon watch quietly at his sides.

And for all the aura of rough strength emanating from him, the Fool of Dragnor moves with practiced precision and grace that any woman dancer would envy.

A smirk appears on Nobunaga's face when Gabite joins his dance, zealously watching the warrior's back and mirroring his moves.

As for the Deino, it... just headtilts a whole lot, feeling a little left out of this impromptu celebration of moving on two legs. Poor little guy! At least the dance is pretty to look at? Oh, right, Deino don't have eyes, either. Life kind of sucks for the little Deino right now...]

[Ah, but Nobunaga's Deino and Gabite might not be the only strange critters spotted around camp today.

See, there is another warlord perusing camp facilities with a blue, dinosaur-like creature of his own - a Lapras. The transport Pokemon normally found it much easier to cross bodies of water, but battles were had on sea and land alike, so they needed to be prepared at all times; a short training session had then seemed appropriate, and though his partner could only move at a slower pace, Mitsuhide made sure to match it. It was a quiet sort of understanding that the two shared.

What they couldn't quite figure, however, was the man a ways ahead of them. There were not a lot of male dancers he could name, and definitely not any that could rival a lady's grace. Was it a celebration of peace, perhaps? Yes, he would like to think it was. Ah, if only the same blessings could be granted to the people of Ransei...

... speaking of which and upon closer inspection, the warrior from Nixtorm was now under the impression he had seen that face before, back in his homeland. His Pokemon seemed familiar, as well-- the memory was but a fading painting, but it was certainly still there. Could it be...?]

My lord--! [The words rolled off his tongue with usual ease, and for just one moment he lost his composure-- the dawning realization might have been a bit too much.]

[If Mitsuhide had been uncertain before, that single gesture had dissipated all clouds of doubt. That was Nobunaga all right, with his peculiar speech pattern and the unmistakable flair for dramatics - and perhaps a few years taken off his back, as well.

And with that renewed certainty comes the only response one would expect from this cold-eyed warrior: absolute devotion.]

My loyalty remains with you, my lord. [He brings an arm across his chest and offers a bow of his head, a sign of willing submission.] My Lapras and I shall serve and assist you in your endeavors, should we be needed.

[And speaking of Lapras, the Water/Ice Pokemon tilts its head upon seeing Deino's reaction; was it possibly thinking it would attack? No way, they were on the same side! Perhaps sharing a berry as a peace offering would work?]
devotionary: (why would anyone want)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-23 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[The smile that crosses Mitsuhide's features for a moment, however, is exactly what one would normally get from him; gentle and kind, tinted with a great deal of respect. Seeing Nobunaga's brief interaction with Deino - and, more especially, the very fleeting display of affection that followed - reminded him of exactly why he had come to admire and follow this man's foolish dreams, many moons ago. This was the Nobunaga who aspired to and inspired great things, the Nobunaga whose motives he did not have to question.

And he had to wonder, how long it would be until he changed again.]

Your desire is mine to follow, my lord. [It only took that one question for Mitsuhide to regain a more serious, determined composure, fitting to a warlord in his position; he had to pledge his allegiance first and foremost, but he also knew better than to leave his master without a proper answer.] However, I fear this land might not be as peaceful as it would seem; there may not be Pokemon to be used as tools of war, yet pieces of weaponry are not an uncommon sight.

[At that, Lapras gives its partner a scared look, to which he responds with a soothing hand on its snout; there were horrible legends in their world, and weapons had long since been banned because of them. Had these people not learned their lesson?]
devotionary: (pic#5024635)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-24 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[... well, that didn't take long at all, now did it?]

... as you wish, my lord. [It wasn't without some difficulty that the words came out of his mouth, and although he figured Nobunaga didn't hold his feelings on the matter in any sort of high regard, he still made an effort not to let his disappointment show. It was an art he had perfected over the years, or at least he liked to think so.

Concealing his surprise at the sudden nibbling on his calf, however, wasn't as easy of a task, and the slightest of undignified yelps may have slipped off his tongue upon first contact - not a loud one, so hopefully Nobunaga hadn't heard him. Maybe. He really didn't want to think of how damaged his reputation would be, had his master noticed any of this.

Meanwhile, Lapras is keeping a close eye on the tiny dragon, gently pushing Deino off Mitsuhide's leg with its head. No biting the pretty warlord, okay?]
devotionary: (or to satisfy my desires)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-24 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, excuse me if he's the one having to walk at a Slowpoke's pace because your baby dragon is attached to his leg, okay! And he knows Deino is doing that more out of need than anything else, which makes it so much harder; he doesn't want to hurt the poor thing, he most certainly doesn't want to be hurt, either, and he also has a warlord with dreams of grandeur and very little patience to follow. Tough.

For the time being, Lapras will have to endure the biting in his stead, as he scurries off to Nobunaga's side. Frostbite would be such a useful ability to have right now, but at least his partner is sturdy enough to handle the blind Pokemon.]

My apologies. [Mitsuhide offers as he joins his master, sparing a glance over the stall's display. In all honesty, it was Nobunaga's reaction he was more interested in; he recognized that look and had a very clear idea of what it might mean, what with Nobunaga's love for foreign things. It wasn't something he wished to think about at the moment, though; hopefully he was worrying too much.]

These are very strange contraptions. [Said as he tentatively runs a hand over one of the weapons available - a rifle that had called out to him like a distant whisper.] Never have I seen anything like this in Ransei...
devotionary: (I head towards my master)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-24 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lapras just shakes its head at the baby dragon, and you can almost hear a tsk tsk in disapproval. Hey, Deino, here's an idea: if you need help getting around, why not ask? Lapras is a total bro and will lend you a fin, provided you keep your biting urges under control.

As for Mitsuhide, well. While he can't say he was surprised that Nobunaga would try and coerce him to take arms, soon after their reunion as it may be, the vendor's words did puzzle him more than anything else he had witnessed in that strange land; how could this blade have been made for him, when sword fighting was such a taboo in their world?]

Made for my use...? [It comes out in a confused whisper as the Nixtorm warrior takes the katana in his hands, carefully unsheathing the blade so to give it a better inspection. It was strange how naturally he could wield it, with the practiced ease of a veteran swordsman, even though this was the very first time he even saw one. In all truth, he's not sure he likes it, but when he looks back up at Nobunaga, he makes sure his features will betray nothing but obedience and resignation.]

If it is your wish, my lord, this sword shall serve you.

[Ah, if only they knew the faithful retainer would one day turn against and kill his master with that same rebellious blade, in an alternate reality far from them...]
devotionary: (why would anyone want)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-24 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mitsuhide, on the other hand, would be horrified to learn of his alternate self; no matter how many times he had questioned Nobunaga's motives and even vaguely considered a rebellion, he would never dream (though it sounded more like a nightmare) of killing anyone, let alone his master.

But that was a matter he would not dwell in, at least not for the time being. He had a more important question at hand, something he had not given a lot of thought to until Nobunaga asked: what was he to do now that Ransei was nowhere in sight?]

My desire has always been to see a land without war, like only you can make it. [And while that is the truth (as he perhaps foolishly believes) there is something else bothering him, as denoted by his pause.] But... I must admit I am uncertain of what to do, ever since arriving in this land.

[He really didn't want to believe waging endless battles - this time armed with weapons instead of Pokemon - was the way to accomplish that. And he had a feeling Nobunaga didn't quite agree.]
devotionary: (even if others see it as destructive)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-25 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Somewhere in the back of his head, Mitsuhide thanked the heavens for Deino's suddenly strange behavior, which had worked as enough of a cue to distract Nobunaga.

His question, however, remained unanswered, both in the physical plane and in the icy warrior's heart. It's true these days he often hesitated to follow his master's orders, if only because he never stopped to reconsider his motives; to become his rival, though, was something else, a bit of a last resort he hoped to never have to make use of. It wouldn't do to challenge the man who once inspired his dreams and gave them renewed hope.

And yet, he couldn't help but give that katana a last glance before rushing to Nobunaga's side once more. What was that ominous feeling pounding in his chest and why could he not shake it off...?]

Is something the matter with Deino, lord Nobunaga? [He asks upon approaching the small group, also giving his Lapras a questioning look in hopes for some sort of elaboration. The light blue Pokemon, by its turn, cranes its neck so to check out the dragon on its back - that little thing seemed to think its shell was some sort of castle to be conquered, yo.]
devotionary: (with my rebellious blade)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-25 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that was--]

Ah, Deino is... changing?

[It had never happened to him personally, as his Lapras could not evolve, but he certainly recognized that glow. It was a little odd, though; it's true that the process varied from Pokemon to Pokemon, but usually it happened after a battle of some sort, and as far as he could see, the Dark/Dragon dual type had been doing nothing but playing since their reunion.

Oh, well, it didn't matter. Perhaps it would be best to simply keep watching, and keep his musings to himself.]
devotionary: (a land of harmony)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-26 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is precisely that yet that keeps nagging at Mitsuhide, unspoken as it was.

Again, it was not the time to be concerned with that, however. There it was, the side of Nobunaga that could only earn the brightest of smiles from the Nixstorm warlord, to such an extent that even his Lapras could notice, prompting a cheerful hum in response; the Pokemon really hated the idea of seeing its master sad or in a tight spot of any sort (and there certainly were many of those when Nobunaga was present) so knowing he was feeling better was quite a relief.

And it was exactly for the sake of his precious Pokemon that Mitsuhide's joy didn't falter, not even as Nobunaga shot another jab at him, a painful reminder of the man's true nature, as he often tried to turn a blind eye on with increasing difficulty.]

It is, indeed, a very fitting choice, my lord. [Said with a bow of his head, a good excuse to avoid eye contact-- but just for a moment. When he looks back up, his smile is a little stronger, even hopeful.] Although I daresay you would not go as far as being jealous of yourself.

[It was a joke, of course, but such a joyous occasion called for one.]
devotionary: (there is only one answer)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-26 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, please, murderous looks from Ranmaru are amusing; it's Nobunaga's he would worry about. Thankfully, Mitsuhide is well aware that the Dragnor warrior, strange and full of whimsies as he might be, was not one to engage in petty matters such as the innocent implication a warlord's best suited Pokemon partner was one that resembled him or her the most. Personally, he would take it as a compliment.

The tight spots, however, came from entirely different situations - such as right now, as his master once again spoke in riddles very clearly meant for him. It was hard to say whether Nobunaga was toying with him, testing his loyalties or encouraging his full potential; for all he knew, it might as well be all of them. And it made very little sense to him.

Sometimes, it almost felt as if the man wanted him to rebel.]

Of course. [This time, his smile did go into hiding for a fleeting moment, though all it took was another glance at their partners.] The Pokemon seem overjoyed at the prospect, as well.

[Well, Lapras perhaps not as much. It kept casting unsure looks at Zweilous, especially at that new head there. Double the biting. Hmm. It might be a good idea to keep an Ice Beam prepared. Just in case.]

[Not anytime soon, if ever at all. And even if things do one day come down to betrayal, Mitsuhide will still likely see it as a result of dire need for change, rather than a consequence of his own ambition; which of the two is actually true, no one will ever know.

As for the two dragons, well, it really was hard to keep up with them without leaving his own Pokemon behind - Lapras couldn't move as well on land, we've been through this before - so he follows the party at his own pace, even if it meant risking Nobunaga's impatience again. He seemed to be in one of his better moods at the moment, though, so that would hopefully not be too much of a problem.]

I wonder if they'll serve anything appropriate for a Pokemon. [He says as he finally catches up with the others, though more to himself than anything else. Only then he turns to his sole human companion.] Have you had the chance to taste any of the food in this place yet, lord Nobunaga?

[It was a roundabout way of asking if he had been there for long. Mitsuhide certainly hadn't.]
devotionary: (or to satisfy my desires)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-27 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey! Nobunaga may be the stronger warlord, but he was the better novelist, okay!

With a nod, Mitsuhide accepts the invitation and gracefully takes his place by the table, legs crossed under the wooden surface. He may not have a poem ready right away, but his was a muse that demanded very little; sharing drinks with good company, a rare moment of leisure by his Pokemon's side or simply watching the scenery, anything could promptly inspire his heart and his words. Today was no different, everything else aside.

He excuses himself to a sip of his tea, clearing his throat and weighting his thoughts in the brief interval it takes for the cup to no longer touch his lips.]

Plain hemp will not do
For a mountain offering
As our excursion begins --
Surely the gods will be better pleased
To accept a brocade of autumn leaves.

[It was a reference to their new journey on this strange land, but it was also oddly appropriate for the man with dreams to rival a god.]
devotionary: (to turn my sword against him)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-28 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[It hadn't really been his intention, and, in retrospect, it might have not been the best idea to further encourage Nobunaga's ambitions, but there was something the both of them could agree on: the deities they believed in were, in fact, not very different from other three companions by their side right then.

The problem lies on how, exactly, his master plans on making everyone else see the light. Would he try to befriend the Creator of Ransei or...?]

I'm pleased you found it to your liking, my lord. [Another bow of his head, his smile a little more contained as he sips from his drink again. It was always best to keep Nobunaga in good spirits, this much he knew for sure.] As is the tea to mine, I must say. Would you not like to try--

[Aaaaaand that's when he notices Lapras making a (not so) small mess out of its meal, too content to mind its manners. Not that it... ever cared much about that, to be perfectly honest. Seriously, between his Pokemon and his daughter, Mitsuhide really couldn't tell which one gave him the most trouble.]

... ah, I really wish you could behave more adequately, Lapras.
devotionary: (to question its possibility)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-28 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Things you should never expect from Mitsuhide: ever stop asking silly (though not at all irrelevant) questions.

Either way, Lapras was very much pleased at the Dragnor warrior's implication, going as far as giving its master a forceful, prideful nod as though reinforcing the idea... right before turning its back to Nobunaga and behaving like a perfectly well-mannered little thing, the way Mitsuhide had intended. Doing it to spite the both of them? No, why would you ever think that?]

Almost eagerly so, my lord. [Said as he feeds his oh-so-stubborn Pokemon, half amused at its antics, half terribly concerned; he could excuse it from Lapras, but Gracia would never find a good marriage prospect if she didn't learn to be more graceful.] It will be a glorious day when Pokemon are no longer used as tools of war, and the land will find peace once again. It will be a time to hone different skills, and lead different lives.

[Things you should expect from Mitsuhide: very idealistic dreams that may or not correspond to the actual state of affairs.]

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[... Nobunaga, you sure do seem to go out of your way just to make Mitsuhide's life difficult, don't you?]

I know not of what you speak, my lord. [He lowers his head again, under the excuse of taking another sip from his tea. Really, how many times have they talked in circles so far, and how many more times would the conversation not really go anywhere until it finally either moved forward or stopped at once? It was impossible to tell.] I don't expect war to fully end, or for warriors to stop engaging in battles altogether; however, so long as he can make most people understand our beliefs and share the dream, then my wish will have been granted.

[Lapras gives him a questioning look, tilting its head as though asking if the meanie warlord was giving him a hard time again, to which Mitsuhide responds with a fond hand on its head.]

This is the peace I long for; it might never be perfect, but it can be good enough.
devotionary: (why would anyone want)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-29 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mitsuhide is well aware there is darkness in his heart, and he most certainly is no Eminence of Light, either; he is a human being, after all, and he, too, has waged war and fought countless battles for the sake of his wish. The difference between them, however, lies in both, their motives and their modus operandi.]

I will have peace of mind, knowing that my strength was used for a noble cause. [A pause as he helps himself to a moderate amount of rice, though he doesn't eat just yet.] The good of the land... Isn't that what we have been fighting for all along?

[It's a rhetorical question, Nobunaga, please don't answer that. Seriously.]
devotionary: (I head towards my master)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-30 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
[... but, in order to shine his own light, would that not mean he also had to overshadow the sun?

It is with thoughtful silence that Mitsuhide responds, suddenly taking a renewed interest in his bow of rice as though that could buy him some time. In all honesty, he, too, was very much frustrated; he felt disgusted at his own incompetence, at how he kept failing to meet his master's expectations, and yet he genuinely did not what else to offer. Nobunaga has his everything - his strength, his loyalty and utmost devotion.

The bit about having no vision of his own, however, did catch his interest, if only in a puzzling way. For someone who wished to unite the land, wasn't it better to have followers who shared his ideals, rather than oppose them?]

I apologize for my unsatisfactory performance, my lord. I shall strive to take your wisdom to heart. [It's a small compromise, but also the best he could do at the moment. Nobunaga was a genius, and if the man wanted something else from him, if he thought his potential hadn't been explored in full, then he was probably right.

The problem was to figure out how to do it.]
devotionary: (I believed in him)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-10-30 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[As though prompted by Nobunaga's question - actually, it might have just been that - Lapras turns to its master with a look that screams "Freeze him so he won't be a meanie again!" You know, just for a week or two, teach him a bit of a lesson. Mitsuhide, of course, pays the Pokemon no heed, choosing to give it a disapproving glance in return. While patting its head. Yes, he's so strict.]

You could never look powerless to me, my lord. [And it's the truth, too, even though it might seem like he's dodging the topic.] Tired, perhaps, but you shall always rise stronger.
devotionary: (and swore I would abide to him)

[personal profile] devotionary 2012-11-04 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[BUT WHAT THE HELL WAS HE SUPPOSED TO ANSWER, HE DOESN'T GET IT, OKAY. Seriously, he can never figure out that man at all.]

Ah-- [Nobunaga's suddenly sleeping form is enough to render him speechless, and if there was anyone who could internally flail while keeping a perfectly calm exterior, that was Mitsuhide. He was pretty sure the tea shop was not the best for a nap - not that his master cared about that - so perhaps he should do something about that. Find him lodgings, maybe?

Meanwhile, Lapras decides that Mitsuhide's life doesn't suck enough yet, deeming it perfectly appropriate to give the Dragnor warrior a gentle headbutt or two to see if he was really sleeping. Wow, rude, Nobunaga.

Can you hear Mitsuhide mentally shrieking here? Because he is.]

[There is a young man wandering the camp; one that may be very familiar to the Demon King.]

[Ranmaru has been here a while now, and met many familiar faces, but until now the one he wants to see most has been absent. So when he spots the dancing man, he immediately startles.]

[He looks like Nobunaga, but there is something wrong. Something not right. After a short while Ranmaru approaches slowly, remaining cautious as he does so. This might be another of Orochi's traps.]

Lord... Nobunaga?

[No. The longer Ranmaru looks at this man, the more certain he becomes that it is his Lord. He may look younger, he may have no facial hair, and those creatures may be completely unfamiliar, but Ranmaru knows Nobunaga's aura too well to mistake it. The page visibly relaxes, and smiles.]

Lord Nobunaga! I am so glad to see you!

[He will trust in his Lord, no matter the form Nobunaga bears.]

[Nobunaga's darkness, and his touch, wash over Ranmaru like the comforting waters of a hot spring. The loss of it always hits him greatly; having lived most of his life in its presence, and been guided through the troubled times with it at his side, having it vanish is a terrifying prospect for him.]

I am ashamed that I was not at your side when the disaster occurred, my Lord.

[He does not draw back, of course, but closes his eyes briefly to show his sincerity in this matter.]

This samurai shall not dishonour himself in such a way again!

[personal profile] wasbitinthethigh 2012-10-31 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Ranmaru dips his head a little in acknowledgement. He cannot stop himself from smiling at such praise.]

My Lord honours me.

[Afterwards, Ranmaru straightens up to make his report. He has been through a lot since Orochi had first appeared, and often found himself unable to do a thing whilst others were lost.]

[Not once has he allowed himself to believe Nobunaga was lost to him, however.]

I have not seen your face since the snake demons arrived, and tore the lands up. Many of our allies perished in the chaos that resulted, and the fate of others remain uncertain.

[He drops to his knees then, bowing deeply. Ranmaru feels the need to make a point now.]

But I knew you were alive.
wasbitinthethigh: (lord nobunaga's not in the mood )=)

No..!

[There is actual panic in Ranmaru's voice then. He stands up quickly and presses his hand against his chin. Yes, he is aware of those differences. He has been since they first met, in truth. But...]

I could never hate you. Lord Nobunaga is Lord Nobunaga.

[Ranmaru feels he cannot function properly without the Demon King. The prospect of hating him is mortifying beyond all things.]

The differences mean nothing. I will serve my Lord no matter what.

I don't know.

[Ranmaru shakes his head, but his expression is turning from one of panic into something very determined indeed.]

But I will learn.

[If he has to prove himself again, or earn his place, he will do it. As far as the young page is concerned, this is where he should be. Should another 'Nobunaga' turn up, well... Ranmaru will face that situation when or if it comes.]

[Until then, this is Nobunaga, his Lord, and that is all there is to it.]
